The attempt
The Story
Syria Reconnected begins with people whose lives are closely connected, and with an attempt to bring an essential part of that life back into operation. With every obstacle, the cost of the attempt changes, their relationship is tested, and the possibilities for what comes next begin to narrow or open.

02 · Dramatic engine
The story begins when something is at stake.
We are not looking for a character to explain an issue. We are looking for a real relationship, a concrete attempt and an unresolved decision—for action that can be observed as it changes under pressure.
- 01
Objective
A clear, practical goal whose progress the camera can follow.
- 02
Pressure
A deadline, commitment, need or condition that makes delay costly.
- 03
Stakes
What could change if the attempt succeeds or falters?
- 04
Obstacles
Services, money, resources, relationships, market, transport, housing and access.
- 05
Decision
Continuing, adapting or retreating becomes an actual choice.
- 06
Consequence
What became possible—and what no longer did?
Place
Syria as a force within the story.
The attempt gains its specificity not from an image of place alone, but from conditions that reshape it: a service fails, a resource arrives late, a market narrows, a journey lengthens, housing imposes a limit or time runs out. The conditions of life in Syria directly shape the attempt and the decisions people can make.

Observation
What will we actually see?
The camera stays where action happens: work being restarted or repaired, a place trying to recover its function, a resource requiring a decision, a deadline approaching, or a relationship being reordered by pressure. Context emerges from within these actions; interviews enter only when movement, image or direct sound cannot reveal what matters.

Human weight
The relationship under pressure.
The attempt is the film's visible engine, but the relationship gives it human weight. As the task grows harder, positions may diverge, roles may change, and a practical decision can directly affect another person. The relationship is not an emotional layer added to the story; it is part of the outcome.

06 · Approach
Image, Sound & Storytelling
Close to people, grounded in the sound of place, and shaped by what actions and decisions leave behind.

Action before explanation
When something can be seen happening, we do not ask a participant to explain it for us.
Closeness without intrusion
The camera stays close enough to register detail while respecting participants’ privacy and boundaries.
Body and material
Hands, tools, surfaces, fatigue, movement and waiting.
Place as a force
Rooms, roads, markets and surrounding conditions can alter what happens.
Direct sound
Direct sound — the sound of action and place — carries meaning before explanation.
Interviews when necessary
They enter only when observation cannot reveal something essential.
07
Development & Next Step
The film's editorial premise, dramatic engine, criteria for selecting the central story and its participants, and visual approach have been developed. The next stage moves into field research and selecting a central story with a real relationship, a concrete attempt and an unresolved decision. It will also secure the access needed to follow and film the story in the field.
